Liverziani suspended for two years
|
Italian legend Claudio Liverziani was suspended for two seasons as the result of testing positive for stimulants in a 2009 anti-doping test.
The Bologna star hitter and MVP of the 2009 finals will be sorely missed by both his club and the league in general, and there is some hope of appeal given his examplar track record and long series of negative tests.
The blow is significant for Bologna who under their newly elected president Stefano Michelini will begin a new cycle, losing also retired captain Daniele Frignani, foreign slugger Richard Austin, and likely Giovanni Pantaleoni (to San Marino). With their current financial situation it is unlikely Bologna will be able to replace the combined impact of those four players, but the always resilient franchise will likely make some moves to continue to compete as the roster gets younger.
